Role Purpose

Assist the Deck Leader in ensuring that the deck operations are carried out in an organised, safe and efficient manner.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• To conduct activities in accordance with the HSE Management System requirements and to meet all legal obligations incorporated in the HSE Management system, specifically to meet those responsibilities defined within procedure CORP/H&S/P/SP1.1 – HSE Roles and Responsibilities.
• Assist in the safe and efficient execution of deck operations associated with the launch and recovery of subsea equipment including:-
o Rigging
o Product handling
o Subsea operations
o Heavy lifting activities
Key Measures

• Acceptable safe level of general housekeeping of working areas is maintained, including the correct use of PPE
• Complete the approved Rigger/ Welder competency programme
Key Tasks

• Assist the Deck Leader in the mobilisation, loading and demobilisation of vessel spreads and associated equipment
• Ensure welding activities are conducted in line with Company procedures
• Ensure clear and conscience communication with the bridge and back deck
• Attend and participate in all toolbox talks
• Conduct self assessment of work area for safety, and inform the Deck Leader when a safe system of work in not covered within the risk assessment procedure
• Assist in ensuring all rigging equipment is kept in good working order and certification is maintained. Any damaged rigging or rigging requiring re-certification should be reported to the Deck Leader immediately and quarantined if necessary
• Under the direction of the Shift Superintendent, assist in sea fastening of equipment prior to departure and during long transit periods and periods of expected bad weather.
• Under direction from the Deck Leader , assist in the safe and efficient execution of deck operations associated with the launch and recovery of subsea equipment including:-
o Rigging
o Product handling
o Subsea operations
o Heavy lifting activities.
• Assist in the maintenance of rigging stores.
• Assist in ensuring all practical measures are taken to prevent pollution and damage to the environment.
• Assist in keeping an acceptable and safe level of general housekeeping of all working areas.
• Ensure the correct use of PPE at all times.
• Participate in any necessary training associated with equipment, and in any pro-active safety events as required by the Company or client
• Ensure that the Company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy is strictly adhered to.

Qualifications/Demonstrable experience

• GCSE in Maths and English – or equivalent
• Experience in MS Office programmes
• Welding Qualifications
• Banksman/ Slinger/ Signaller training
• Mobile Elevated Work Platform
• Familiar with Rigging Certification – be conversant with the safety requirements of lifting tackle, shackles, slings etc.
• Experience with the socketing and splicing of different types of ropes, including large diameter tow/lift wires.
• Wire Rope Socketing Certificate (desirable)
• Forklift Truck Licence (desirable)
• Stage 2 Crane Operator certificate (desirable)
