JOB DESCRIPTION
Division: Logistics Location: Dubai
Job Title: Design Manager Department: Logistics
Internal: Construction General Manager, Other BU’s Project Managers, Construction Project Managers, Construction Trade people, Operations Managers, Internal Division Managers, Administration Personnel
External: 3rd Party Construction Contractors, Sub-contractors, Contract Project Managers, Customers and/or end users including both Military and Civilian Officials
Prime Objective: Implement and Coordinate Logistics Construction Design Processes for all Construction Projects.
Key Tasks:
General:
• Preparation of Architectural and Engineering design concepts and working drawings for all the Logistics division construction projects.
• Managing a team of personnel overseeing all architectural and engineering design aspects of the construction projects.
• Coordination of the design processes required to meet the operational objectives of the end user.
• Resolving design related issues with end users and Contractors once works begin.
• Contract negotiation and management of construction projects in conjunction with other Project Managers.
Project Management:
• Reviews deliverables across projects,
• Implements reviews and quality assurance procedures in accordance with client methodology,
• Ensures successful execution of consulting engagements / projects as measured by clients goals and customer satisfaction,
• Minimizes exposure and risk across multiple projects,
• Manages and mitigates risk across projects,
• Serves as key participant in team and client meetings,
• Assesses and mitigates issues openly and quickly,
• Manages client interaction and expectations for multiple or large scale projects,
• Anticipates clients needs and proposed alternate business solutions.
• Capitalizes upon opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and solidify client relationships,
Technical Understanding:
• Assists in the evaluation and redesign of projects,
• Possess a thorough understanding of Clients Service Offerings and Technical Direction,
Financial Management:
• Prepares cost estimates for construction projects,
• Manages to and achieves revenue goals set for projects,
• Accurately forecasts project costs,
• Monitors progress in respect project timelines and budgets,
Communications
• Handles personnel issues directly, using appropriate discretion, HR advice, and respect for individual rights,
• Effectively communicates relevant project/practice information to superiors, peers, and subordinates,
• Tactfully communicates sensitive information,

Organizational responsibilities:
• Participates in all programs relating to performance evaluations and career development planning,
• Reviews evaluations within practice for consistency,
• Assesses training needs and selects training tools,
• Manages the development of project teams by ensuring that project tasks sre realistic and achievable,
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
• Degree / Diploma in Architecture / Draughting or Structural Engineering
• Ten years or more experience of managing projects of increasing complexity and size.
• Experience of constructing prefabricated steel warehousing
• Experience in civil engineering would also be an advantage.
• Construction contract administration experience.
• Understanding of logistics fundamentals and applying these concepts to building designs.
• Fully conversant with AutoCad design software.
• Previous experience in using Microsoft Project and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Previous work experience in Afghanistan / Iraq (or other similar difficult location) would be an advantage.
• Ability to travel to Afghanistan (and possibly other locations) reasonably often.
• Able to work under pressure in often difficult environments coordinating numerous activities and groups of people.
• Excellent written English.
Preferable Skills and Qualifications:
• Previous experience of working with logistics operations
• Previous experience in designing pre-fabricated steel warehousing.
• Previous experience in design site services for camp type facilities.•
